To be a performer, in this case a pianist,
bestows the enormous fortune to be
able to penetrate the inner world of
some of the greatest artistic geniuses
humanity has yielded. In this sense, to
have studied, brought to the concert
hall and finally recorded Bach’s Goldberg
Variations represents an itinerary which,
although involving work extending over
more than three years, has become one
of the most enriching experiences of my
life. The unlimited performing possibilities
this colossal work offers, combined with
the necessary respect for a score which
has come with the passage of time to be
considered sacred, generated a process of
musical and aesthetic reflection, of quest
for a personal style, and study of Baroque
performance practice. But they also
sharpened the intuition, imagination and
creative power which must play a decisive
role in any work in performance.
